Fly Away Home: A Novel

Fly Away Home - Jennifer Weiner Very nice read about mother-daughters relationships. I enjoyed it a lot although sometimes it appeared too fictional and sweet, that' s why 4 and not 5 stars. But still, not bad.

sTORI Telling

sTORI Telling - Tori Spelling Not my cup of tea. I thought that maybe a book will be better that Tori's reality show. But it wasn't. I didn't like it, I didn't find it interesting. So this is poor one star from me.

Betty Crocker's Cookbook

Betty Crocker's Cookbook - Betty Crocker Not so good as I thought it would be. I like to cook so I know the topic (at leas I think so) but the recipes in this book aren't amazing. The book is old fashioned. Simply not for me.

The Scarlet Letter (Dover Thrift Editions)

The Scarlet Letter - Nathaniel Hawthorne A real masterpiece of American literature. The story is set in a puritan land where a woman has born an illegitimate child. She is forced then to wear a scarlet letter 'A' as a sign of a punishment for her adultery. The character portrays are delightfully structured, and the whole story analyzes the weaknesses, strengths, motivations of book's main characters. It may seem that it is not relevant to recent history and our times, but the beauty of this book lies also in its uniqueness and social insight into that time reality. But is it really so different? Context, setting and we are changing constantly but some social schema behavior stays the same. For me this is the universal feature and that's why it is worth to read this very book.

Desert Flower: The Extraordinary Journey of a Desert Nomad

Desert Flower: The Extraordinary Journey of a Desert Nomad - Waris Dirie, Cathleen Miller It is an amazing story of brave, courages and hurt girl who decided to leave Somalia and find a better place for herself. The story just goes to your heart. It's honest, not complicated that's why we may identify with the main character so easily. The story of Dirie's life is both fascinating and horrifying. You can learn a lot about that place and about woman's strengths. It's really worth reading. Thanks to Warren Dirie, the world got interested in barbarian ways of treating woman in Africa. It wasn't easy for the author to rise the topic as she was a victim of this cruel procedure. High recommendation and strong four stars.

Never Cry Wolf : Amazing True Story of Life Among Arctic Wolves

Never Cry Wolf : Amazing True Story of Life Among Arctic Wolves - Farley Mowat The story looks like following- wolves are suspected of killing wild arctic caribou. Mowat is assigned to discover the truth and investigate the issue. He goes to cold and dense tundra to live alone among pack of wild wolves. However, he doesn't perceive them as killing monsters or deadly weapon. He finds a common language with them.Mowat says an interesting story, he observed the family of wolves, gave them names and got really close to them. He somehow immersed into this wild world, he adjusted to the rules that the wolves gave to his. He wasn't a master there any more, he was on wolves's land and he showed them respect and tells us their story. It is really superbly written, entertaining and informative. High four stars !

Chomsky on Democracy and Education (Social Theory, Education, and Cultural Change)

On Democracy & Education (Social Theory, Education & Cultural Change) - Noam Chomsky, Carlos Otero An interesting book which deals with the problem of education and its relation to democracy. According to the author the relation as such does not exist. The book gives good perspective of Chomsky's philosophical position. A nice insight about a democracy for education. If you wish to read Chomsky's book you're advised to start with this one.

Imagining India: The Idea of a Renewed Nation

Imagining India: The Idea of a Renewed Nation - Nandan Nilekani Quite simple, not bad. A perfect book for anyone who wants to live in India or already lives there. A nice view of a magical country that is a desirable destination nowadays and quite popular place to be, live and work. Good three stars.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity & Learning Disorders Questions & Answers

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity And Learning Disorders: Questions And Answers - J. Gordon Millichap I met and took care of a child who probably had this ADD syndrome, however, I lacked knowledge about this illness, I didn't know how to speak to him. I didn't understand why he behaved the way he did. he didn't understand me and I him. It was a real vicious circle. I felt very guilty of myself, I'm not a prof in this respect and I definitely lacked knowledge and experience. The book gave me an insight into ADD child's mind. It present not any easy problem in an easy way. Hartman compares ADD people to hunters in the world of farmers! I think it's brilliant! The book gives absolutely positive view of people suffering from ADD, it made me understand some behavior schema. It says also that ADD doesn't have to be defeat but a quality in todays world. When we skim history all genius people had some problems and probably had ADD or ADHD. This should be a must read for anyone who works with children and for parents as well. Excellent way of giving positive light on an issue that was perceived as something very problematic and troublesome. The whole book, though isn't so cheery and and all-problems-of -the-world-solving. It has also some bitter remarks, e.g. when it comes to medical treatment of ADD and ADHD. The situation isn' t easy, that's a fact, however, this books makes it look a little better, brighter and with full comprehensive insight.
